Prosecutors Pleading With Court to Keep New Jersey Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting Two Children in Jail Until Trial

Trenton, NJ – A 51-year-old Trenton man has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting two children under the age of 13, Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey announced Tuesday.

Gaither could soon be released under New Jersey’s Bail Reform Act.

Rasheen Gaither, 51, faces two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, two counts of second-degree sexual assault, and one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. Prosecutors have filed a motion to keep him detained pending trial.

Authorities said Gaither assaulted one victim while she was staying overnight at his home in Trenton and another while she was at an illegal dispensary he operated in the city.

On September 5, detectives from the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office and Trenton Police executed a search warrant at Gaither’s convenience store, “Bagged U,” on Pennington Avenue. He was arrested outside without incident. Inside the business, investigators seized about four pounds of marijuana and a handgun.

As a result, Gaither was also charged with second-degree certain persons not to possess a handgun.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit at (609) 960-3119 or submit tips anonymously at mercercountyprosecutor.com.
