Police say two 16-year-olds were taken into custody just hours after a ride-share driver was robbed of his SUV at gunpoint.

BALTIMORE, Md. — Two 16-year-olds have been arrested after police say they carjacked a ride-share driver at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon before being tracked down several hours later.

According to the Baltimore Police Department, Northern District officers responded at approximately 1:41 p.m. on July 7 to the intersection of Pall Mall Road and Shirley Avenue for a reported armed carjacking.

When officers arrived, they met with the victim, a 44-year-old ride-share driver, who told police his 2024 Toyota SUV had been stolen during the carjacking.

Police broadcast a description of the suspects and the stolen vehicle.

At approximately 6:35 p.m., District Action Team officers, Regional Auto Theft detectives and Baltimore County Aviation units located the stolen SUV traveling in the 2300 block of Bryant Avenue.

One suspect was arrested in the 2300 block of Bryant Avenue, while the second suspect was taken into custody in the 2300 block of Ruskin Avenue.

Police said one 16-year-old was transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility and charged as an adult with auto theft. The second 16-year-old was transported to the Juvenile Justice Center and also charged with auto theft.

The investigation remains ongoing. The charges are allegations, and the suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
