New Jersey Offers Post-Conviction Relief for Affected DWI Cases

**Trenton, NJ** – The New Jersey Office of the Attorney General announced that individuals who were arrested or convicted for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and provided breath samples on affected Alcotest instruments may qualify for post-conviction relief.

This announcement is in line with the State v. Zingis, 259 N.J. 1 (2024) decision, and follows the precedent set by the 2018 State v. Cassidy case. The related press release is available on the New Jersey Attorney General’s website.

Two documents are accessible to the public to assist in determining eligibility for relief. These include a spreadsheet listing every breath sample taken on affected devices from November 5, 2008, to April 9, 2016, and a database containing calibration records.

Those who believe they qualify for relief can file a petition under Court Rule 7:10-2 with the municipal court where they were convicted. Consultation with a private attorney or public defender is recommended to explore eligibility and necessary actions.

Robinson was found guilty of First-Degree Murder, Violation of the Uniform Firearms Act (VUFA) 6106 and 6108, and Possession of an Instrument of Crime.

The victim, 25-year-old Deja Lewis, was found dead in her apartment on October 8, 2022. Investigators determined Robinson killed her following a disagreement. Man Convicted of Sexual Assault of a Minor in Butler County

**HARRISBURG, PA** — Attorney General Michelle Henry announced the conviction of a Butler County man for sexually assaulting a pre-teen child. The conviction follows charges against 45-year-old Shaun Sheffer, who was accused in 2023 after a Statewide Investigating Grand Jury made recommendations against multiple Jehovah’s Witnesses members.

Sheffer was convicted this week on three counts of rape, including the rape of a person with a mental disability, as well as three counts of indecent assault. His sentencing is scheduled for February.

Attorney General Henry highlighted the vulnerability of the victim based on their age and mental disability. Henry expressed gratitude to the grand jurors, the trial jurors, and the victim for their roles in the proceedings.

The charges were part of the 49th Investigating Grand Jury’s findings, with the abuse occurring between 1995 and 2000 in Butler County. Testimonies revealed that Sheffer was a close acquaintance of the victim, who was between seven and 12 years old during the assaults. The case was led by Senior Deputy Attorney General Alicia Werner.
