BELLE VERNON, PA — A routine dinner with her children turned into a life-altering moment for a Fayette County woman who claimed a $1 million prize from a Pennsylvania Lottery Scratch-Off ticket.
Brittnee Boot, a single mother of three, purchased the winning “$1,000,000 Winnings” ticket on March 19 at Foster House II in Belle Vernon, shortly after she and her kids finished their meal. Officials from the Pennsylvania Lottery presented her with a ceremonial check at the same location on Wednesday, where the ticket was sold.
Boot described the moment she realized she had won, saying she initially thought she was imagining the result. She contacted her sister immediately and later visited the Lottery Office in Pittsburgh to file the claim. During that visit, she offered to share the prize with her sister, who declined.
The Pennsylvania Lottery confirmed the win and noted that all prizes over $5,000 are subject to applicable withholding. Foster House II, the retailer where the ticket was purchased, was awarded a $5,000 bonus for selling the top-prize ticket.
The “$1,000,000 Winnings” ticket is a $20 Scratch-Off game offering top prizes of $1 million. According to the Pennsylvania Lottery, these tickets are distributed at random, and neither the Lottery nor retailers know where winning tickets will be sold ahead of time.
Officials emphasized the continued impact of lottery sales on programs that benefit older Pennsylvanians statewide. March is also recognized as Problem Gambling Awareness Month, and the Lottery reminded players of available free and confidential support resources.
