WASHINGTON, DC — A teenage girl sitting inside a parked vehicle was shot on Yuma Street SE just before 5 p.m. Friday in a Southeast neighborhood, and police are now searching for a suspect caught on surveillance video near the scene.

The shooting occurred in the 800 block of Yuma Street SE, prompting a rapid response from Seventh District officers. When they arrived, the teen was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital by DC Fire and EMS. Her injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

Investigators said the teen was not the intended target and appeared to have been caught in the crossfire while seated in a vehicle. The identity of the shooter remains unknown, but the suspect was captured on nearby surveillance cameras. Both a still image and video have been released by the Metropolitan Police Department in hopes of identifying the individual.
