Virginia mother arrested for assaulting child at school bus stop

STAFFORD, VA — A Stafford County woman was arrested Tuesday after allegedly assaulting a child at a school bus stop and boarding the bus to continue the confrontation, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m. outside Winding Creek Elementary School, located at 475 Winding Creek Road. Sheriff’s deputies responded after school staff learned of a disturbance at a nearby bus stop involving an elementary school student.

Authorities said the victim, a juvenile, had ongoing issues with another child. That child’s mother allegedly confronted the victim at the bus stop and escalated the situation as the bus arrived. The suspect reportedly assaulted the victim, then boarded the bus and refused to leave until she finished yelling at the child.

The confrontation was caught on camera, and officials confirmed that the victim was not injured during the incident. The suspect, identified as a 35-year-old woman, was taken into custody by Sergeant J.T. Harrod.

She was charged with assault and battery, disorderly conduct, and trespassing on school property. The magistrate later released her on personal recognizance.
