Atlantic City teen charged after shooting himself accidentally

On June 15, 2021, an investigation by Violent Crimes Unit detectives led to the arrest of a man who shot himself and the recovery of a handgun. At 8:36 am, patrol officers responded to the 1600 block of Beach Avenue in reference to a man that was shot. Officers arrived to find Henry Alvarez with a gunshot wound to his finger. Alvarez told the responding officers he was shot by an unknown individual while walking to the store. He was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division with a non-life threatening injury.

An investigation conducted by detectives led to them locating a crime scene inside Alvarez’s residence that included a handgun, spent shell casing, and blood. Alvarez was placed in custody at the medical center.

ARRESTED: Henry Alvarez, 18, of Atlantic City.
CHARGES: Unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition and possession of a defaced firearm.
