Suspect in violent Richmond attack and robbery arrested

RICHMOND, VA – a suspect wanted for a brutal attack and robbery and Richmond has been arrested at a nearby hotel according to police.

On August 31, at approximately 11:40 PM, Richmond Police responded to a residence on Hampton Way due to an attempted robbery and assault. Upon arrival, police found a male victim suffering from visible injuries. The male reported that someone struck him with an object knocking him to the ground, and then went through his pockets looking for money.

Detectives were called to the scene and immediately began an investigation.

“Investigators identified a potential suspect by viewing security video at a location where the victim was before arriving on Hampton Way. The security video led investigators to believe the victim was being watched and followed by a male suspect,” police said today. “Throughout different locations, the suspect could be seen near or close to the victim. The suspect was eventually seen approaching the victim with a weapon on Hampton Way and fled the scene after the attack.”

Investigators identified the suspect as Stephen Craig Calhoun,44.

On Sunday, police took Mr. Calhoun into custody at a local hotel close to Hampton Way. After interviewing Mr. Calhoun, Detectives arrested and charged him with Attempted Robbery 1st degree and Assault 2nd degree. Mr. Calhoun was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
