Atlantic County man charged after home invasion spree

ABSECON, NJ – Absecon police officers have arrested Steve R. Hackett, 41, of Egg Harbor City, after he went on a home burglary crime spree across the community.

According to police, Hackett was arrested after victimizing numerous residents in the early morning hours on Wednesday.

“Officers were called to locations on Showellton Avenue and Marlin Road where they discovered that a male had entered an occupied home and attempted to gain entry into several others,” the Absecon Police Department reported. “Responding officers learned that a man attempted to force entry into a home on Showellton Avenue by smashing the storm door. After a failed attempt, the man fled and entered a home on Marlin Road. Upon entry, he confronted the family inside. After a brief altercation with the homeowner the man fled. He then attempted to force entry into another nearby home by kicking the front door.”

Hackett was arrested quickly after arriving at the scene. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with burglary, two counts of criminal attempt burglary and two counts of criminal mischief.
