New York woman shot and killed after pulling into wrong driveway

Salem, NY – Police in New York have arrested a man who shot a woman simply for pulling into his driveway.

On Saturday, at approximately 9:53 PM, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a possible shooting near Cemetery Road in the Town of Salem. As authorities arrived at the scene, additional 911 calls were made reporting shots fired from a residence on Patterson Hill Road in the Town of Hebron.

Upon arriving at the first scene on Cemetery Road, Deputies discovered the victim, identified as Kaylin A. Gillis, age 20 of Schuylerville, New York, in a vehicle with a gunshot wound.

Tragically, Gillis was pronounced dead at the scene. During the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the vehicle Gillis was in had mistakenly pulled into the driveway of the Patterson Hill Road address, resulting in the homeowner, Kevin D. Monahan, firing at least two shots, one of which struck the victim.

Monahan, who was uncooperative with the investigation and refused to exit his residence to speak with police, was later taken into custody with the assistance of the New York State Police Special Operations Response Team after several hours. He has been charged with Murder in the 2nd degree and transferred to the Warren County Jail to be held.
