Newark Man Arrested for Robbery and Theft

NEWARK, NJ – Obdulio Junior Negron, a 36-year-old Newark resident, has been arrested in connection with a robbery that took place on Thursday, March 2, 2023. A man walking in the area of Jackson Street near Ferry Street was approached by two Hispanic males who struck him, rendering him unconscious, before stealing his gym bag and wallet.

The gym bag reportedly contained $500, and the wallet contained a debit card and other personal property.

The victim was treated at University Hospital for his injuries. His stolen debit card was used on March 4 at a Newark coffee shop and later for an online purchase from a mobile phone retailer.

Detectives investigating the incident reviewed the coffee shop’s surveillance footage, which showed the suspect making a purchase using the victim’s debit card while wearing clothing matching the suspect description.

On Sunday, police located Negron in the area of Ferry Street and Alyea Street and arrested him without incident. Negron now faces charges of robbery, conspiracy, receiving stolen property, and theft of services.
