Gavin Newsom Says He Met To ‘Compare Notes’ With Texas Sheriff On Potentially Prosecuting DeSantis

Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom met with Bexar county sheriff Javier Salazar to “compare notes” on their possible prosecutions of Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, he told Fox 11 Los Angeles.
The investigations center around DeSantis’ flights of migrants from the southern border to Martha’s Vineyard in September and Sacramento in June. Salazar has recommended criminal charges after a probe into the flights alleging migrants were misled, the sheriff’s office recently told the Miami Herald.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta said his office was “evaluating potential criminal or civil action” related to the flights.

“I met with him to compare notes yesterday because it is exactly the playbook that DeSantis and his staff to send migrants to California,” Newsom told Fox 11.
“I find it not only disgraceful, I think there’s grounds, not only to investigate but to potentially initiate some form of accountability. The Sheriff wants to see that from the D.A. in Texas and we’re pursuing that with the Department of Justice in this state,” Newsom said.
Salazar was “disgusted [with] what Ron DeSantis did, coming into his jurisdiction under false pretense and deceiving kids, not just kids, adults, and sending them on an airplane to Martha’s Vineyard,” Newsom said.
DeSantis, who is vying for the Republican 2024 presidential ticket, defended the transports, during a press conference at the southern border on June 7.
“I think the border should be closed, I don’t think we should have any of this. But if there’s a policy to have an open border, then I think the sanctuary jurisdictions should be the ones that have to bear that. We are not a sanctuary in Florida and yes we note people want to come and so the more we can divert before we even have to get there is good for our state,” DeSantis said.
