NEW YORK, NY – Witnesses said teens joyriding in a stolen car were driving erratically and blowing red lights before crashing their vehicle, leaving one dead and two injured on Monday.
The tragic accident occurred in Manhattan at the intersection of West 179th Street and Audubon Avenue, involving a Hyundai vehicle driven by a 16-year-old and a Jeep.
The collision resulted in the Jeep flipping onto its side.
Two passengers, aged 16 and 15, in the Hyundai, were pronounced dead at the scene. The 16-year-old driver and two 15-year-old passengers from the Hyundai were critically injured and immediately transported to Harlem Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the overturned Jeep, 65, male, was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
The incident is currently under investigation by the NYPD’s 34th Precinct and Highway units. Further details about the cause of the collision are not yet available. The authorities are working diligently to determine the factors that contributed to this tragic event.
