Richland Man Sentenced for Rape Involving Juvenile

RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, PA – Alex Michael Soderback, a 26-year-old resident of Richland Township, was sentenced to 11 to 22 years in state prison on Thursday for raping a child.

Soderback pleaded guilty on May 24 to rape of a child and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of a victim less than 13 years old. He appeared before Common Pleas Judge Charissa J. Liller.

Judge Liller also ordered Soderback to undergo mental health evaluation, sex offender treatment, and to have no contact with the victim or the victim’s family. Additionally, he is prohibited from unsupervised contact with anyone under 18. Soderback is required to register as a sex offender and will be under Megan’s Law supervision for life.

The investigation began in August 2022 when the Richland Township Police Department received a report from the 9-year-old victim and the victim’s mother. The victim reported being raped multiple times by Soderback between the ages of 5 and 7.

Initially, Soderback claimed that the child was the aggressor. However, during his sentencing, he admitted to being the sexual aggressor and assaulting the child for his own gratification. The case was led by Detective Sergeant Ray Aleman of the Richland Township Police Department and was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney David E. O’Beirne.
