Two Women Struck by Stray Bullets in South Bronx, One Dead

SOUTH BRONX, NY – A 71-year-old woman was killed and a 34-year-old woman was wounded on Thursday when they were struck by stray bullets.

The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on E. 138th St. near Brook Ave. in Mott Haven. Both women are believed to be innocent bystanders.

The older woman was struck in the back and later died at Lincoln Hospital. The younger woman was hit in the left arm and is expected to recover.

The shooter, described as having dreadlocks and dressed in all black, was last seen running west on E. 138th St. Shell casings from a semi-automatic pistol were recovered at the scene.

Police are looking at a few suspects believed to be involved. The incident is thought to be connected to a shooting on Wednesday night at E. 142nd St. and Willis Ave., also in Mott Haven.
