UNION, NJ – A coordinated effort by multiple law enforcement agencies led to the arrest of a Newark man, Joseph Young, in relation to a spate of armed gas station robberies earlier this month.
Joseph Young, 26, faces a range of charges including four counts of first-degree robbery, one count of second-degree eluding, and additional counts related to assault, conspiracy, and endangering the welfare of a child. The charges were confirmed by Union County Prosecutor Nicole Siano.
The crimes occurred on September 5, when the Union Police Department and the New Jersey State Police received reports of three robberies within a 30-minute window along the Garden State Parkway. In each instance, multiple individuals arrived at gas stations in a stolen vehicle and demanded money and other items at gunpoint. Victims were assaulted during two of these robberies.
The subsequent investigation involved the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Intelligence Driven Prosecution Unit, Union Police Department, New Jersey State Police, and Summit Police Department. The multi-agency efforts led to Young’s identification as a suspect and his eventual arrest in Newark following a vehicle pursuit on September 13. Young is currently held at the Essex County Jail, awaiting further court proceedings.
Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel and Union Police Director Christopher Donnelly both spoke on the case, with Prosecutor Daniel emphasizing the agencies’ ongoing commitment to community safety. “I want to assure the public that the Union County Prosecutor’s Office and our partner law enforcement agencies remain committed to tirelessly pursuing those who threaten the safety and security of the communities we serve,” said Daniel.
The investigation is still active. Those with relevant information are urged to contact Detective William Young of the Union Police Department at (908) 851-5037 or Detective Robert Aranda of the New Jersey State Police at (732) 441-4500 x 3432.
