SYRACUSE, NY – Two children were safely evacuated from a Glenwood Avenue residence on September 21 after a court-ordered emergency removal.
Syracuse Police Officers arrived at the scene around 6:05 p.m., assisting Child Protective Services and the Mobile Crisis Unit. Multiple attempts had previously been made to contact the father, who had not allowed his children, ages 5 and 10, to attend school for several days. Reports from Child Protective Services revealed that the father had started boarding up the windows of the home to prevent the children from leaving.
The situation escalated, prompting the involvement of multiple officers and SWAT team members. Law enforcement was able to access the second floor of the home and safely evacuate the children.
The father was taken into custody without incident and has been transported to a local hospital for psychiatric evaluation. Law enforcement agencies collaborated effectively to deescalate the situation and ensure the children’s safety.
