NEW ORLEANS, LA – Ryan Fremin, 39, of Lutcher, Louisiana, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine. U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans made the announcement following the plea.
Court records indicate that on July 2, 2020, a confidential source informed the Drug Enforcement Administration that Fremin was returning from Houston, Texas, to Louisiana’s Eastern District with methamphetamine intended for distribution. Agents intercepted Fremin in Geismar, Louisiana, and seized about two pounds of the drug. Investigations revealed that Fremin made four previous trips to Houston to obtain a kilogram of methamphetamine from Leonel Gonzalez for distribution back in Louisiana.
Fremin faces a mandatory minimum prison term of ten years and could receive up to life imprisonment. Additionally, he could be fined up to $10 million, serve at least five years of supervised release, and must pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
The Drug Enforcement Administration led the investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney André Jones is handling the prosecution.
