Pair Nabbed for Robbery Linked to Virginia Beach Shooting

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – An episode of robbery escalating to a shooting led to the apprehension of two individuals in Virginia Beach. The incident, unfolding in the early hours of October 19, 2023, saw local law enforcement responding to a distress call at around 12:45 A.M.

The Virginia Beach Emergency Communications and Citizen Services (ECCS) received a call concerning a shooting event at the 1300 block of Gaineford Court. Officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) swiftly arrived at the scene and found a 36-year-old male victim, who was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital with injuries deemed non-life-threatening.

Initial probe at the scene pointed towards a robbery as the precursor to the shooting. With descriptions of the suspects and their vehicle at hand, the VBPD Canine Squad managed to trace the vehicle and executed a felony traffic stop, which resulted in the detention of two suspects.

The suspects, identified as Jalen Patterson, 30, and Wendell Patterson, 33, both from Virginia Beach, are now facing a slew of charges. These include Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Aggravated Malicious Wounding, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony (2 counts), and Shooting in the Commission of a Felony (2 counts). Additionally, Wendell Patterson has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
