New Jersey Prepares for Six More Years of Murphy as Tammy Prepares U.S. Senate Challenge

TRENTON, NJ – Phil Murphy, New Jersey’s governor since 2017 has until 2025 until he’s done for good, but news today suggests the Murphy brand could linger in New Jersey through the end of the decade. 2030 to be exact.

That’s because a war in the Democrat party is raging to challenge embattled U.S. Robert Menendez. Menendez is once again facing political corruption and bribery charges after FBI agents raided his home and have since charged him as being a foreign agent.

Seeing the blood in the water, New Jersey Democrats are circling Menendez. New Jersey Congressman Andy Kim has officially challenged Menendez in the June 2024 primary election.

Today, the possibility of Tammy Murphy, wife of Governor Murphy running against Kim and Menendez appears to be all but official.

Political pundits say Murphy is finishing up the paperwork preparation to become an official candidate and could announce soon.

U.S. Senators remain in office for six years, meaning if Mrs. Murphy wins, her and Phil will remain at the center of New Jersey Politics and government for enough time to possibly see his 2035 gas powered car ban become reality. Senators serve six year terms and historically, it’s a seat most die or retire in. In many cases, they simply resign over corruption scandals.

With the criminal charges against Menendez, opponents have the rare opportunity to unseat a sitting Democrat senator.

According to the New Jersey Globe, “In the next few days, New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy will take steps to seek the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate by filing with the Federal Election Commission to raise funds to test the waters and gauge the feasibility of becoming a candidate, the New Jersey Globe has confirmed.”
