Brooklyn Gang Member Heading to Prison for 2020 Murder

BROOKLYN, NY – Malik Bacchus, a 22-year-old from Crown Heights, has been sentenced to 23 years to life in prison for the murder of 18-year-old Shamel Boomer.

The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office stated the incident, which occurred on July 10, 2020, was an example of gang violence in the area.

Bacchus, associated with the Bergen Fam gang, was convicted of second-degree murder among other charges after shooting Boomer, a WOOO gang member, in a hotel lobby.

The retaliation and subsequent gang violence following the murder were significant.

The DA’s office, along with the Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun, hopes this sentencing serves as a measure of accountability.
