BATON ROUGE, LA — A 37-year-old Baton Rouge woman was arrested and charged with first-degree murder following the death of a 66-year-old woman. The incident, which occurred earlier this week, involved the suspect allegedly using a walker to fatally beat the victim.
Baton Rouge Police Department reported they received a distress call about a physical assault in the 3500 block of Riverway Drive. On arrival, first responders discovered Melinda Reed with severe injuries to her head and face. She was transported to a local hospital but later died due to the extent of her injuries.
The suspect, Denise Amy Law, was taken into custody the same day and has been incarcerated at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison without bond.
A detailed affidavit released by local authorities outlined the events leading to the altercation. Reed allegedly attempted to steal Law’s boyfriend, prompting the violent response. Further information regarding the case remains under the purview of ongoing investigations.
