New Jersey Launches Next-of-Kin Registry for Emergency Situations

by Phil Stilton

TRENTON, NJ — New Jersey has introduced a Next-of-Kin Registry, a new system aimed at assisting residents in emergencies involving vehicle crashes.

The registry, managed by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, is a web-based platform where individuals aged 14 and over can submit and update emergency contact information. The database is secure and accessible only to law enforcement, ensuring privacy for registrants.

In the event of a vehicle accident where the individual is unable to communicate, law enforcement officers will use the registry to contact the person’s designated emergency contacts.

Residents can sign up for the service online. For registration and additional information about the Next-of-Kin Registry, visit the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission website.
