ELIZABETH, NJ – Alexis Mondesi, a 50-year-old man from Elizabeth, has been sentenced to 23 years in state prison for the aggravated manslaughter of Yonatan Alexander Vasquez-Torres, a 21-year-old also from Elizabeth.

The sentencing, handed down by Judge Candido Rodriguez, Jr. on last Friday, requires Mondesi to serve at least 85% of his sentence before eligibility for parole.

The incident occurred in the early hours of October 10, 2021, on the 300 block of Center Street.

Elizabeth Police Officers responded to the scene to find Vasquez-Torres with a fatal stab wound.

Prosecutor William A. Daniel expressed hope that this sentence will serve justice for the victim’s family and the community.
