KENSINGTON, MD — A quick visit to Maryland Lottery headquarters marked a significant win for a Montgomery County man, who secured a $50,000 prize from the December 13 Powerball drawing. The winner, who chose to remain anonymous, purchased the winning ticket at Woodmont Market, located at 8227 A Woodmont Avenue, Bethesda.

The lucky player was one of 21 across the nation to snag the $50,000 third-tier prize in that draw. Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot continues to soar, having surpassed half a billion dollars for the fourth time this year. With no winners in the recent draw, the jackpot is now estimated at $620 million for the upcoming Saturday drawing.

2023 has seen five Powerball jackpot victories, the most recent being the $1.765 billion win in California on October 11. The upcoming draw on December 23 marks the 31st attempt in this jackpot series, offering an annuity of $620 million or a cash option of approximately $310.8 million.

Historically, Powerball jackpots landing on Christmas Day are rare, with the last occurrence in 2013 when a Missouri player won $71.5 million. Only three Christmas Day jackpots have been recorded in the game’s history.
