BAYONNE, NJ – In a concerted effort to curb drinking and driving, Bayonne Police have arrested nine individuals for DWI this December, with intensified enforcement measures in place.
Police Chief Robert Geisler confirmed that six of these arrests followed the implementation of targeted patrols, a part of a broader campaign by the department. Since the beginning of the month, nine people in total have been charged with driving while intoxicated.
This initiative is supported by a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The campaign, encouraging drivers to “drive sober or get pulled over,” comes in response to national statistics. From 2017 to 2021, over 4,500 fatalities were recorded in December due to alcohol-impaired driving crashes, as reported by the NHTSA.
