Newark Police Request Public Assistance in Identifying Shooting Suspect

NEWARK, NJ – The Newark Department of Public Safety is seeking public assistance in identifying a male suspect connected to a shooting incident on January 1, 2024. The incident occurred around 4:05 a.m. near University Avenue and Campbell Street.

Upon arrival at the scene, Newark Police found no victims but discovered ballistic evidence, including four spent 9mm cartridges and one live round. The suspect remains unidentified and is described as approximately 5’10” tall, weighing 175 pounds, with a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a military fatigue vest with a security badge on his lapel. The suspect was observed fleeing the area in a black 4-door BMW.
