NEWARK, N.J. – Charles Gallo, 34, from Hawthorne, New Jersey, faces wire fraud charges for embezzling approximately $2.9 million from an elderly couple.

He was arrested and presented before U.S. Magistrate Judge José R. Almonte, released on a $100,000 unsecured bond.

Gallo was hired in 2018 as a personal assistant by the couple.

From March 2022 to March 2023, he misappropriated funds by withdrawing money using the victims’ ATM card, opening a credit line, cashing checks, and making unauthorized purchases with their credit cards.

The wire fraud charge could result in up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, or twice the gross gain or loss from the offense.
