Utica Man Charged with Identity Theft and Larceny

UTICA, NY – A recent case of wallet theft led to the arrest of 63-year-old Kevin Byng of Utica, following an investigation by the Utica Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division.

The victim, who reported a lost wallet, noticed unauthorized transactions on their card at various locations.

Investigators obtained surveillance footage from the locations where the card was used, which consistently showed Byng making purchases.

Collaboration between the Mohawk Valley Crime Analysis Center and New York State Parole aided in identifying Byng.

Byng was apprehended on January 9th, 2023, by Parole and Utica Police investigators at his residence. He faced no resistance during the arrest. Following this, Byng was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fourth degree, Identity Theft in the second degree, and Petit Larceny.
