On the evening of January 23, 2024, Utica Police and Fire units responded to a domestic disturbance on High Street, where a female had been injured with a knife.
Arriving at the scene at approximately 9:15 PM, officers found the involved parties and a female with a significant laceration to her face. The investigation revealed that an argument between the couple had escalated, leading the male to arm himself with a large butcher-style kitchen knife. During the ensuing altercation, the female was cut, prompting family members to call 911.
The male was immediately detained and taken to the Utica Police Department. The victim was transported to Wynn Hospital by the Utica Fire Department, where she required several stitches for her injury.
Following the investigation, 26-year-old Thu Kapaw Hae of Utica was charged with assault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. This incident highlights the critical and swift response of the Utica Police and Fire Departments in handling domestic violence situations.
