Pedestrian Fatality in Ocean Township Under Investigation

Freehold, NJ – The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, led by Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago, has announced an ongoing investigation into a pedestrian death that occurred on Tuesday night in Ocean Township.

The incident, which took place at around 5:49 p.m. on January 30, 2024, involved a 68-year-old male pedestrian who was struck by a motor vehicle while attempting to cross West Park Avenue. The direction in which the pedestrian was crossing remains undetermined.

The vehicle involved was identified as a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by a 53-year-old male. The collision occurred as the Caravan was entering the center lane of traffic along West Park Avenue.

Following the incident, the injured pedestrian was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Unfortunately, he was pronounced deceased later that evening at 8:32 p.m.

The driver of the Dodge Grand Caravan remained at the scene following the accident.

The investigation is being jointly conducted by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Ocean Township Police Department. As part of the investigation, authorities are actively seeking information from the public.
