Jersey City, NJ – Ishmeal Coleman, 46, has been convicted on all charges relating to the 2018 homicide of Takeela Wilson, 38, in Jersey City. Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced that on Friday, February 16, a jury found Coleman guilty of first-degree murder, fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
The conviction stems from an incident on August 12, 2018, when Jersey City Police responded to a report at 391 Forrest Street and found Wilson unresponsive with a fatal stab wound to the torso. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death a homicide caused by a stab wound to the chest.
The trial, presided over by the Honorable John A. Young, J.S.C., concluded after several weeks, with Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Najma Rana representing the State. Coleman’s sentencing is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, May 16, marking the end of a nearly six-year legal journey following the tragic loss of Takeela Wilson.
