Yonkers, NY – The bomb squad was called after a public works employee discovered a World War II-era mortar in his relative’s belongings in Westchester.

The incident began on Monday at around 11 a.m. when the Yonkers Department of Public Works employee contacted the city’s police department. Yonkers Police Lieutenant Jamie Dumser stated that as a precautionary measure, the Yonkers Police bomb squad was called in and determined the mortar was “de-commissioned and completely inert.”

The device was given to the Westchester County Bomb Squad for proper disposal. Lieutenant Dumser assured there was no threat to the DPW Center or the public at any time.
