Cumberland, MD – The Maryland State Police Aviation Command successfully rescued a man who was injured in a motor vehicle rollover down an 80-foot embankment in Allegany County.
On Wednesday morning at 6:50 a.m., the aviation command responded to a call for assistance from Allegany County Fire and EMS personnel regarding a motor vehicle accident with entrapment over the embankment. Trooper 5 from the Cumberland Section of the state police arrived on the scene and conducted an aerial rescue of the patient due to the challenging terrain and patient condition.
Trooper 5, equipped with a hoist, sent a Trooper/Flight Paramedic down the embankment to assess the patient, provide care, and prepare the patient for transportation. The Augusta AW-139 helicopter hoisted the patient and paramedic, after which the patient was transported to UPMC Western Maryland in Cumberland, MD for further treatment.
