Davie, Florida – Amilcar De Jesus Noguera, 72, is facing charges of voting illegally following a child sex crime conviction in the 1980s. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested Noguera on Monday.
Authorities allege that Noguera has been illegally casting votes since the early 1990s, after being convicted of a child sex crime in 1989. Despite being on the state’s sex offender registry list, he participated in 18 elections starting from 1992.
A constitutional amendment in Florida permits felons to vote post-sentence completion; however, Noguera’s voting rights were never reinstated after he received a decade of probation following his conviction.
Following his recent arrest, it remains unclear whether Noguera has sought legal representation.
