UTICA, NY — On June 22, 2024, at approximately 3:30 PM, Utica Police were dispatched to a business on the 500 block of Varick Street following a report of a robbery.
Upon arrival, officers learned that several juveniles had entered the establishment and attempted to make a purchase using a counterfeit $50 bill. When the owner refused the transaction, one of the juveniles struck her, stole money from the register, and fled the scene.
The police quickly developed suspect information and proceeded to Kennedy Plaza apartments. There, they encountered and detained the juveniles in a hallway. Following a positive identification of the primary suspect, a 13-year-old male, the other three juveniles were released.
The 13-year-old has been charged with third-degree robbery by the Juvenile Aid Unit. Due to his age, his identity will not be disclosed. This incident highlights the swift response and effective investigative efforts of the Utica Police Department.
