PITTSBURGH — A man wanted on multiple outstanding warrants was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly striking a police officer with his vehicle and leading law enforcement on a pursuit through the Beltzhoover neighborhood.
At approximately 12:35 p.m., detectives from the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police’s Zone Three Station were conducting a follow-up investigation into a recent burglary. They had identified the suspect as William Skinner, 36, of Pittsburgh. Detectives encountered Skinner in the 100 block of Charles Street. Upon seeing the detectives, Skinner fled in a gold Chevy Blazer.
Officers located the vehicle behind a residence in the 400 block of Althea Street. As detectives and uniformed officers approached, Skinner reportedly reversed the vehicle rapidly, turning it toward a uniformed officer and striking the officer. Detectives and the officer fired at Skinner, who then crashed the vehicle into a wall in a nearby yard.
Skinner fled on foot toward Saw Mill Run Boulevard, where he committed a robbery and later a burglary on Cadet Street. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to assist in the manhunt. Skinner was apprehended at 1:48 p.m. on the railroad tracks under the PJ McCardle roadway.
The injured officer was transported to a trauma center and is in serious but stable condition. Skinner was also taken to a hospital for evaluation and was not wounded by gunfire.
