Anne Arundel Police Charge Baltimore Teen in Two Unrelated June 2024 Homicides

SEVERN, Md. — Anne Arundel County Police announced the closure of two June 2024 homicide cases following the arrest of an 18-year-old Baltimore man. Deondre Tywon Sharps was charged on Tuesday with the fatal shootings of Keion McKinney and Joshua Ray Holland, which occurred in separate incidents earlier this year.

On June 14, officers responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 7:19 p.m. in the 1600 block of Meade Village Circle in Severn. Upon arrival, police found McKinney, 34, suffering from gunshot wounds behind a building. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary investigations indicated that McKinney was shot by a male suspect while exiting a townhome, and the shooter fled the area. Detectives quickly determined the attack was targeted, with no threat to the wider community.

Later that month, on June 29, officers responded to what was initially reported as a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 2 North and Orchard Avenue in Brooklyn Park. Upon arrival, they found Joshua Ray Holland, 34, with gunshot wounds. Holland, a resident of Curtis Bay, was transported to Shock Trauma, where he later died. Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle stop suddenly at the intersection before Holland fell from the driver’s side door. The vehicle then fled the scene, but officers later located it in the vicinity of Old Riverside Road.

Police confirmed on Tuesday that Sharps has been charged in both homicides. Investigators found no known connection between the victims, with the suspect being the only link between the two cases. Sharps is currently incarcerated in Baltimore.

The investigation remains ongoing.
