Newark man arrested on gun, drug, and DUI charges after traffic stop

NEWARK, Del. — A Newark man faces multiple gun, drug, and DUI charges after a traffic stop on Library Avenue on Friday, Sept. 13, according to a statement released by the Newark Police Department.

Around 9:52 p.m., a Newark Police officer conducted a traffic stop and found the driver, identified as 33-year-old John Moore, was wanted on an unrelated capias from a Delaware court. Moore was taken into custody without incident.

During a search of Moore’s vehicle, police discovered a handgun, as well as suspected psilocybin mushrooms and amphetamine pills.

Moore was transported to Newark Police headquarters, where he was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence, and additional traffic offenses.

Moore appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #2 by video and was released after posting $25,700 secured bail.
