FAIRMOUNT HEIGHTS, Md. — Prince George’s County Police are investigating a domestic-related fatal shooting that left a 32-year-old woman dead in her Fairmount Heights home late Tuesday. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Quindell Mercer of Washington, D.C., was found dead in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday morning from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

Officers responded to the 500 block of 62nd Avenue around 11 p.m. Tuesday, where they discovered Tequia Nails inside her residence suffering from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement from the Prince George’s County Police Department.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Mercer shot Nails before fleeing the scene. Police say the two had previously been in a relationship.

At approximately 10 a.m. Wednesday, Washington, D.C., authorities located Mercer with a gunshot wound believed to be self-inflicted. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

The Prince George’s County Police Department is responsible for investigating all homicides in Fairmount Heights.
