Snakes in the Drain: Stafford deputies rescue snake from basement sump pump

STAFFORD, Va. – A Stafford family’s pet snake was safely rescued Tuesday afternoon after becoming trapped in their home’s sump pump.

At 2:30 p.m., Sergeant A.J. McCall and Deputy V.R. Weadon responded to an animal control call in the Season’s Landing subdivision. Upon arrival, they found a pet boa constrictor named Prince stuck in a sump pump. The deputies used a snake pole to safely extricate the snake.

The snake was returned to its cage without incident.

The Office of the Stafford County Sheriff shared that the family was relieved following the rescue. Photos from the incident were shared on social media by the Sheriff’s Office.
