Pasadena man arrested after hatchet assault, handgun violation

PASADENA, Md. — A 68-year-old Pasadena man has been arrested following an altercation with a neighbor that escalated into a hatchet assault, according to Anne Arundel County Police. The incident occurred on the morning of October 4, 2024, in the 1400 block of Stoney Point Way.

Officers responded to the scene around 10:55 a.m. after receiving reports of a confrontation between two neighbors. The dispute, which stemmed from a prior disagreement, turned physical when the suspect, identified as James Russell Gulley, assaulted the 31-year-old victim with a hatchet. The victim was able to disarm Gulley before police arrived.

Upon detaining Gulley at his residence, officers discovered a .22 caliber Jennings semi-automatic handgun in his possession. Police determined that Gulley was prohibited from owning or possessing firearms. The victim declined medical assistance at the scene.
