Asheville, NC -*The Buncombe County Courthouse has resumed operations from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. following disruptions caused by Hurricane Helene. The facility’s restrooms have been temporarily relocated outside in the form of portable toilets.

Jurors have been excused for the remainder of the month. Those represented by attorneys should reach out to their legal representatives for updates.

District and Superior Courts have reopened. However, numerous cases are likely to be postponed, with emphasis given to in-custody cases and initial court appearances.

Civil superior trials originally set for October are deferred until November 1. Motion hearings will occur via Webex unless alternative arrangements are made with the Trial Court Coordinator. Individuals lacking internet access can access court facilities for remote hearings, and inquiries should be directed to Trial Court Coordinator John Rogers.

The courthouse recommends minimizing physical visits despite operations resuming. Electronic filing options remain available through NCCourts.gov, and the deadline for filings is now extended to October 28.
