Suspect charged after months on the run for Rhode Island Avenue robbery

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery in Northeast D.C. after turning himself in months after the incident, police announced Monday.

The robbery occurred on May 11 at approximately 2:50 p.m. in the 1800 block of Rhode Island Avenue Northeast. According to police, the suspect approached two victims, brandished a firearm, and demanded property. One victim complied, and the suspect fled the scene. No injuries were reported.

On Sunday, 23-year-old Mustafa Carter of Northeast D.C. surrendered at the Fifth District Station. Following an investigation by detectives, he was charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence.

Police did not release further details about the case or whether additional suspects were involved.
