WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man has been arrested in connection with an assault and robbery in Southeast D.C., where a victim was struck unconscious and robbed after confronting the suspect.

The incident occurred early Wednesday morning in the 1200 block of Half Street, Southeast. At approximately 5:30 a.m., the victim confronted an individual they believed had broken a vehicle window. The suspect then attacked the victim, striking them repeatedly in the head with a screwdriver.

The victim lost consciousness and fell to the ground, at which point the suspect stole the victim’s phone and fled the scene. Emergency responders transported the victim to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On Friday, authorities arrested 29-year-old Craig Hunter, who has no fixed address. He has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and second-degree theft.

Police credited the Metro Transit Police Department for their assistance in making the arrest.
