FREEHOLD, N.J. — A Farmingdale man who serves as a Board of Education member and a school crossing guard has been charged with possessing child sexual abuse materials, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced Friday.

William L. Shaffer, 47, faces one count of third-degree possession of child sexual abuse materials following an investigation initiated in September 2024 by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Bureau’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit.

The investigation was prompted by a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), which originated from a cloud-based software company. Authorities determined that Shaffer had been viewing and possessing the illicit materials.

Shaffer was arrested without incident Friday morning by members of the MCPO High Tech Bureau and Search Warrant Execution Team (SWET).

Anyone with additional information regarding this case is urged to contact Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Anthony Lacher at 800-533-7443.
