HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, N.J. – The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA) is investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 20-year-old Virginia man during a police encounter in Hunterdon County.
The crash occurred on October 18 near Stamets Road and Gallmeier Road. The driver, identified as Scott Segreaves, Jr., of Zuni, Virginia, was pronounced dead at the scene after his vehicle overturned and landed down an embankment.
According to the preliminary investigation, New Jersey State Police Staff Sergeant Nicholas Pryszlak attempted to stop Segreaves for a speeding violation on Water Street in Milford Borough at approximately 10:24 p.m.
After activating his lights and sirens while pursuing Segreaves on Stamets Road, Sgt. Pryszlak lost sight of the vehicle and deactivated his emergency equipment. The overturned vehicle was discovered approximately 30 minutes later.
The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office initially opened the investigation before notifying OPIA, which is now leading the inquiry. Authorities have not disclosed additional details about the incident or whether any further actions will be taken.
