BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ — A serious motor vehicle crash on Route 9 near Hickory Lane left one person injured and temporarily shut down the roadway on Saturday.

According to Berkeley Township Police, the incident occurred when a Ford F-250 towing a trailer attempted to turn around and backed into a concrete block on the shoulder. The impact left the truck and trailer stopped in the middle of the roadway.

While the Ford’s driver was outside inspecting the damage, a southbound Toyota Corolla collided with the stationary vehicle, causing significant damage and airbag deployment.

The Corolla driver sustained serious injuries and was initially set to be airlifted but was ultimately transported by ambulance to Jersey Shore Medical Center for treatment.

Route 9 was closed between Hickory Lane and Station Road for approximately one hour as emergency crews cleared the scene.
