NEW YORK — Lunar New Year celebrations in New York City this weekend are expected to bring road closures and potential traffic delays as parades take place in Queens and Brooklyn.

The first major event, the Lunar New Year Parade in Queens, is scheduled for Saturday, with closures along Union Street, Sanford Avenue, and Main Street in Flushing. The NYPD will enforce closures at its discretion.

On Sunday, Brooklyn will host two Chinese New Year parades, impacting traffic on 8th Avenue in Sunset Park and 18th Avenue in Bensonhurst. Streets along the parade routes will be closed at the discretion of law enforcement.

Officials advise drivers and commuters to anticipate delays and consider alternative routes. Public transportation is expected to experience increased ridership, especially along subway lines serving the affected areas.

The parades are part of citywide festivities celebrating the Year of the Snake, bringing traditional performances, cultural displays, and large crowds to key neighborhoods.
