WASHINGTON — The Department of Defense announced a new Annual Media Rotation Program for the Pentagon Press Corps, requiring established media outlets to vacate their physical office spaces to make room for new organizations, according to a memorandum issued January 31, 2025.
The policy, set to take effect on February 14, 2025, aims to expand access to the Correspondents’ Corridor, the Pentagon’s dedicated media workspace, by allowing different news organizations to operate from inside the building on a rotating basis.
Under the new system, The New York Times, NBC News, National Public Radio (NPR), and POLITICO will vacate their Pentagon offices. In their place, The New York Post, One America News Network (OANN), Breitbart News Network, and HuffPost News will move in.
“For over a half-century, the Pentagon Press Corps has benefited from working out of individual office spaces that provide coveted and open access,” the memo states. “This new program ensures that outlets that have not previously enjoyed this privilege can now do so.”
The decision marks a significant shift in how media organizations gain access to Pentagon officials, sparking debate over press freedom and transparency in defense reporting.
